Nominated by Shannon Markarian of Oak Orchard was first grader, Izabelle Frasier. Mrs. Markarian shared that she just can't say enough good things about Izabelle. "She is very responsible and respectful. She is kind to everyone and always willing to help out. She is the kind of kid who will make sacrifices so others get what they need or want. She doesn't give up even when things are difficult for her. Our Mustang Mission promotes responsibility, respect, perseverance and kindness, and Izabelle demonstrates those things every day."

From Wise Middle School Jessica Catalano McCloskey nominated a seventh grade student, Ayesha Way. When Mrs. Catalano McCloskey indicated her reasons for nominating Ayesha, she shared that "she is a phenomenal student to work with. She is soft spoken, but very thoughtful when she speaks. She asks questions to better her understanding and helps others when she senses a need, even if they do not ask for her help. She is always smiling in class and tries her very, very best, even asking to make corrections or update her work so it is the best representation of her. She even has asked to come to work outside of class time to continue working in my room so she can ask questions if she has any. After school Ayesha has been volunteering her time all year in my community service group. She takes initiative to lead service projects and makes sure the end products come out great! She has a study period first thing each day and has asked to continue to work on service projects during this time when her homework is completed. She seems to genuinely care for the people or groups of people that the service people benefit. Her empathy for others as expressed through her community service projects and her innate desire to help peers is a truly remarkable trait for such a young person."

From the High School, Sebastian Zilempe, a tenth grader, was nominated by Margaret Martin and Kelly Gates. Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Gates report that "Sebastian comes to class everyday with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. He is respectful and is friendly to all of his classmates. For those who may not have as many friends, he engages them in conversation and shows a genuine interest in their activities. He does not hesitate to help students who are having difficulty with their homework. During class, we have observed him deal with difficult students in a remarkably mature manner. Outside of school he assists his family in their business, operates his own rabbit business, as well as participates in a competitive travel soccer league. All of these activities demand many hours outside of school, however he consistently completes his assignments and always puts forth his best effort in class."

Congratulations to this month's winners! The MTA, MBA and MCSD will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored?
