Community Action of Orleans & Genesee is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and has served low-income and disadvantaged families for over 40 years. Community Action programs are designed to empower as well as provide opportunity to those who are not yet self-sufficient. Programs like Head Start work on long-term goals by educating children and short-term goals by working with parents in a variety of areas like education, housing and nutrition. Many programs use short and long-term benefits (e.g., HEAP Application Assistance and Weatherization Services), referrals (Emergency Services) or education (Employment Training programs) to help people achieve self-sufficiency.
