Nominated by Andrea Lonnen of Oak Orchard was kindergartner Gavin Hughes. Mrs. Lonnen shared that "learning to get along with others and modeling good character traits is very important in kindergarten. Gavin is a perfect example of being respectful. He is always polite to adults and is caring to his peers. Gavin shows responsibility everyday by having his homework completed and following our classroom routine. At the end of the day, he will not leave until our classroom is put back in order! Gavin is very thankful for everything he has and everyone in his life. He shows so much love toward his family at home and at school. Gavin is also very kind and accepting of everyone. He is a friend to all his classmates. His friendship has no boundaries. Gavin is a very bright young boy and helps his peers understand their schoolwork if they are struggling."

From Wise Middle School Deb Webber nominated one of her fifth grade students, Camryn Eick. When Mrs. Webber indicated her reasons for nominating Camryn, she said that "I would like to nominate her because she is a strong student academically but she is even stronger in character. Camryn is patient and supportive of all students in the room. She contributes to regular class discussions and work while completing extension activities that challenge her. She helps in the classroom, even staying after school to sort and label our library."

From the High School, Daniel Mandujano, an eighth grader, was nominated by Jeff Dole. Mr. Dole reports "Daniel works extremely hard in class, always making sure his work is done. If he gets stuck, he is not afraid to ask for help in my class. He always tries to get his work right and will take the time to fix anything that is wrong, Dan is a beginning English Language Learner, but that does not stop him. Even though he may struggle at times with the English language, Dan gives some of the best answers on questions where you have to justify your answer. His answers are thorough, and he never leaves answers blank. Outside of the classroom, Dan always takes the time to say hello to his teachers in the hallway and say goodbye at the end of class."

Congratulations to this month's winners! The MTA and the MBA will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored?
