Press Release

The Medina Teachers Association and the Medina Business Association are proud to announce the February selections for Students of the Month. This award is a joint effort between the two organizations to recognize students who go above and beyond to help teachers and fellow students succeed and enjoy school.

Rosenkrans Pharmacy has graciously sponsored the award for February. This month students are being honored with this article and a Certificate of Achievement from the Medina Teachers' Association presented by President Joseph Byrne. In addition, Rosenkrans Pharmacy awarded each of this month's winners with a gift card to Rosenkrans and a candy bar.

Nominated by Andrea Lonnen of Oak Orchard was kindergartener Jenna Cecchini. Mrs. Lonnen shared that "Jenna deserves to be Student of the Month because she has earned my respect as well as the respect of all her classmates! Jenna is the perfect role model. She is always setting a good example for her peers. Jenna is kind and helpful. She is a good friend to all her classmates and works hard to make sure everyone is included in all activities. This tends to be a hard concept for children this age. However, Jenna considers everyone's feelings. Jenna listens to her teachers all day long and does her work with perfection. She takes her time to listen to directions to complete tasks correctly. More importantly, she takes pride in her work to make sure it is done neatly. This is another difficult concept for children this age."

From Wise Intermediate and Middle School Jessica Catalano-McCloskey nominated one of her seventh grade students, Serenity Baumgart. When Mrs. Catalano-McCloskey indicated her reasons for nominating Serenity, she said that "Serenity is a hard working and polite student who takes her learning very seriously. She has come to ask for assignments when she has missed class and asked to stay at lunch or after school to get help with them is she is unsure after missing the lesson. She strives to do her best on all her assignments. She is not afraid to ask questions to clarify her understanding. Even when a task is difficult for her, it is noticeable that she is putting forth a good effort and is not intimidated by the challenge. Instead, she rises to the challenge. She also is a positive influence in the classroom. She works well with others and encourages others to do their best. She is also a smiling happy face from the moment she enters the room to the moment she leaves. From passing out papers to closing the door when the hall gets loud to helping another student, if help is ever needed, she is always a willing volunteer. Serenity displays the qualities of an exemplary student that any teacher would love to have in their room."

From the High School, Bobby Geiger, a freshman, was nominated by Chris Horgan. Mr. Horgan indicated that he thinks Bobby should be student of the month because "he always has a very positive attitude in class. He is genuinely polite and is a conscientious worker. He takes an active role in class and enjoys learning. He is very considerate of others. He personifies the qualities of exemplary student citizenship."

Congratulations to this month's winners! The MTA and the MBA will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored?
