Nominated by Andrea Lonnen and Kris Colonna of Oak Orchard was kindergartener Phoenix Roy. Mrs. Lonnen shared that she "has never met a harder working boy! He perseveres through every task and assignment. School work, at times, can be difficult for him, but you would not know it. He never complains and always tries his best. He is very kind and always willing to help his friends." Mrs. Colonna shared that "Phoenix is a student in her math class. He comes to group daily ready and willing to work. At times, the skills and concepts are difficult for him, but he never gives up. He puts a smile on his face and gives his best effort. Phoenix deserves to be recognized for all his hard work and perseverance. He is always seeking to please his teacher and himself."
From Wise Intermediate and Middle School Sara Kyle nominated one of her seventh grade students, Willy Sanchez. When Mrs. Kyle indicated her reason for nominating Willie, she said that she "has worked with Willy since he started here at Medina. He started here in June of 5th grade, speaking minimal English and dressed like a gentleman. He may have been able to speak more than he let on as I had a difficult time even engaging him in a conversation in Spanish. He was very shy. He sat back and just observed. This year he has been in my class, and I was nervous about how successful he could be. Willy has truly grown so much this year. He completes his assignments daily. He asks for help when he needs it. He has started to make great friends that he enjoys being with and working on assignments with. His personality is starting to shine. He finds humor in many situations, and he has a great laugh. He loves being at school, hardly missing any days all year. Willy is outstandingly creative with amazing art skills and was one of few art students to be honored for that achievement at the 7th grade honors convocation. Willy is an amazing young man that I will truly miss when he moves on to the high school."
From the High School, Jorden Moden, a freshman, was nominated by Michele Crandall. Mrs. Crandall reports that "Jordan goes above and beyond what he needs to do. He is always willing to help others. He always has a positive attitude and has a very good work ethic which comes from having to work on a farm outside of school and being taught hard work pays off. He is a student that is well deserving of getting acknowledged for his academic success."
Congratulations to this month's winners! The MTA and the MBA will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for more honorees next school year. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored?
