Nominated by Allison Harmon of Oak Orchard was second grader Jayla Brady. Mrs. Harmon shared that "Jayla came to AIS math as a struggling student with little to no interest in improving her skills. As the year progressed, she has become a very hard working, motivated student and has shown tremendous growth in her math and problem solving skills. I am very proud of her for taking responsibility for her academics."
From Wise Intermediate and Middle School Sara Kyle and Krista Jaekle nominated one of their sixth grade students, Zachary Fike. When Mrs. Jaekle indicated her reason for nominating Zachary, she said that "he has helped the Student Council and the FFA organizations all year with many jobs. Specifically he has counted money, filled the milk machine, and acted as the student representative treasurer. Zachary often has to take time out of his classes to perform these duties and then makes up all of his missed work right away. Zachary is an excellent and responsible student who cares about his school. I am thankful that Zachary was part of my class this year." Mrs. Kyle added that "Zachary played a tremendous role in our Jr. FFA program. He participated in the fundraisers and helped Sr. FFA with all their fundraising opportunities as well. Zach worked at the FFA Citrus Shop and helped with both the Pancake and Beef on Weck Dinners. Any time volunteers were requested Zach was quick to sign up, and he also followed through with his plan to help. Zach was also our treasurer and took on a lot of responsibility to maintain our financial books and count milk money regularly. It was a pleasure to see his money skills and confidence grow throughout the year. Zach has also helped with several WISE Jr FFA activities including preparing for Ag Appreciation Week, incubating and hatching baby chicks, and introducing our program to 5th graders. He plans on remaining an active FFA member and leader next year and I look forward to working more with this outstanding, hardworking, and ambitious student!"
From the High School, Charles Beach, a senior, was nominated by Krista Duhow. Mrs. Duhow reports that "Charles not only has overcome many obstacles in his life, he has also embraced these challenges and makes the most of every moment. Once at the end of a financial math class, I mentioned that we had some students who could use a math tutor. I was aware Charles tutored them once or twice, but it wasn't until two months later that I discovered he had been tutoring these kids anytime he had free time. I was so proud that he took it upon himself to encourage and empower these underclassmen." Exciting news about Charles is that he has plans of going to SUNY Brockport in the fall. The MTA wishes Charles the best in all his future endeavors, and especially in his academic pursuits in college.
Congratulations to this month's winners! The MTA and the MBA will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for more honorees next school year. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored?
