The Medina Teachers Association and the Medina Business Association are proud to announce the September selections for Students of the Month. This award is a joint effort between the two organizations to recognize students who go above and beyond to help teachers and fellow students succeed and enjoy school.
The Herbalty Cottage has graciously sponsored the award for September. This month students are being honored with this article and a Certificate of Achievement from the Medina Teachers' Association presented by President Joseph Byrne. In addition, Bonnie Heck from the Herbalty Cottage awarded each of this month's winners with gift cards to Case Nic cookies! Yum!
Nominated by Allison Woodburn of Oak Orchard was first grader Elaina Bruce. Mrs. Woodburn shared that "Elaina is a dedicated, hard-working and bright student who loves to learn. She comes to school with a smile on her face every single day and sets a great example for others. Elaina is polite and always uses her manners when speaking to others, asking for things, or participating in class. She makes me so proud for always trying her best and for only handing in excellent work. Elaina is a star student!" Way to go, Elaina!
From Wise Middle School Sara Kyle nominated one of her fifth grade students, Amari Soule. When Mrs. Kyle indicated her reasons for nominating Amari, she shared that "Amari has come to class each day with an enthusiasm to work and to improve himself. He has completed all tasks I have assigned him. When he completes an assignment before his peers he either asks for more work or takes it upon himself to work on something from earlier in the day. Amari has also assisted me in helping his peers study their multiplication facts."
From the High School Alden Cayea, a junior, was nominated by Sara Rund and Jesse Mankowski. Mr. Mankowski and Mrs. Rund report that Alden deserves to be student of the month for some very wonderful reasons. Mr. Mankowski and Mrs. Rund shared that Alden is a junior who has been very helpful to the 8th grade class. At the Food Truck Friday fundraiser scheduled during the homecoming football game, Alden stayed the whole time to help the Junior AND the 8th grade class sell items for their individual fundraisers and prior to that he had helped take down hallway decorations (on a Friday afternoon!). When 8th grade students didn't show up at their scheduled time slots, Alden simply said "I'll do it." In addition, at one point during the night, Alden was told by a community member that he was doing a truly fine job selling and that she was touched by how nice he was to her. The woman offered him a tip, and he politely declined. Both teachers deeply expressed how strongly they felt that Alden's act of citizenship at this game make him a fine candidate for student of the month.
Congratulations to this month's winners! The MTA and the MBA will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored?
