The Medina Teachers Association and the Medina Business Association are proud to announce the September selections for Students of the Month. This award is a joint effort between the two organizations to recognize students who go above and beyond to help teachers and fellow students succeed and enjoy school.
The Bank of Castile has graciously sponsored the award for September. This month students are being honored with this article and a Certificate of Achievement from the Medina Teachers' Association presented by President Joseph Byrne. In addition, Patrick Weissend from the Bank of Castile awarded each of this month's winners with backpacks full of school supplies and goodies! Wow! How wonderful!
Nominated by Allison Woodburn of Oak Orchard was first grader Jobi Wheeler. Mrs. Woodburn shared that Jobi is a hard-working student who always puts forth his best effort. He sets a great example for other students in the class, and makes sure to always follow the Mustang Mission pillars of respect, responsibility, honesty and kindness. He prides himself on making good choices, even when adults are not around. He has a love for learning and is a joy in the classroom. He loves school and makes the most of each day!
From Wise Middle School Sharon Pantera nominated one of her seventh grade students, Andrew Wolter. When Mrs. Pantera indicated her reasons for nominating Andrew, she shared that has made already made much progress from last year. He is not only getting along with ALL of his peers, but is showing leadership and initiative, in offering others help in his areas of strength. He is being a friend to everyone. This year he has not given up, gotten mad, or displayed frustration with his assignments once. He has asked for help and pushed through. He has signed, and adopted our class rules, and understands it's ok to make mistakes. He will even insist on finishing assignments when given the option to put it away. His writing from the first day of school, until today, look like two separate students. Andrew puts in extreme effort from the minute he walks in the door, until the minute he leaves. He is at his desk working hard almost constantly. I am so proud of Andrew, I could just burst.
From the High School Gavin Flatt, a senior, was nominated by Jon Sherman. Mr. Sherman reports that Gavin deserves to be student of the month for some very wonderful reasons. Mr. Sherman shared that Gavin is not a student who has had a great deal of success in school, mostly because he has not been a serious student. He is a senior this year and is taking 10th grade biology. We have had discussions this year where he has told me he has screwed up in the past but that he has his act together now. He has been a model student and has been very serious about his work. For our final project in our first unit, he produced a very professional YouTube video explaining the experiment that he designed and carried out himself. I am looking forward to bigger and better things from him in the future.
Congratulations to this month's winners! The MTA and the MBA will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored???
