The Medina Teachers Association, Medina Central School District, and the Medina Business Association are proud to announce the December selections for Students of the Month. This award is a joint effort between the three organizations to recognize students who go above and beyond to help teachers and fellow students succeed and enjoy school.
Filomena's Favorites has graciously sponsored the award for December. This month students are being honored with this article, a Certificate of Achievement from the Medina Teachers' Association presented by President Joseph Byrne and Medina CSD Superintendent, Mark Kruzynski, presented a special pen and pencil. In addition, Filomena's Favorites presented each student with a gift card to Avanti's and some Della's Chocolates!
Nominated by Allison Woodburn of Oak Orchard was first grader Jude Lacy. Mrs. Woodburn shared that "Jude is a student who strives for excellence in school both with academics and behavior. Jude is intrinsically motivated to do well in school. He works hard to complete his best, to soak in new knowledge, and to participate in class. He is always adding interesting points and observations to our class discussions and enjoys leadership roles. Jude makes good choices in class and always sets a great example for others. He is a kind friend, a respectful student, and a complete joy to teach. I just truly enjoy working with him, because he has a love for learning and sets high expectations for himself. Jude is also one of the first students to offer help to others who may need assistance. He is glad to offer a helping hand and makes a point of congratulating others in their own successes."
From Wise Middle School Ken Haak, Krista Jaekle, Kari Webster, and Kayla Leathers nominated a sixth grade student, Roosevelt Mitchell. When these teachers indicated their reasons for nominating Roosevelt, they shared that "Roosevelt has grown tremendously since September, not only academically, but personally. Roosevelt moved into this school district last year and had a rough start, but in sixth grade he has made lots of new friends and his academics are really improving. Roosevelt has even taken it upon himself this year to befriend and look after a fellow student in sixth grade who has moved into the district and is struggling a bit to acclimate. He has become a good friend to this student and cares for him like family. It is so nice to see such wonderful academic and social growth in Roosevelt."
From the High School, Isaac Pace, an eighth grade student, was nominated by Joe Byrne and Darnell Gray. Mr. Byrne and Mrs. Gray report "Isaac wrote a very lengthy email proposing an early morning study/homework group led by him for 8th grade students. Once this study group was underway, our principal, Mr. Cavanagh, stopped in one morning during a session to thank Isaac for making the High School a better place by starting this group. Isaac is always looking to help assist others. This homework study group is just one way Isaac demonstrates the qualities of a well-rounded student. Isaac is so patient and kind while working with all of the students. He is mature beyond his years."
Congratulations to this month's winners! The MTA and the MBA will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored?
